Wii FIT Balance Board Activity
This activity allowed my weight lifting students to see the correlation of balance to lifting weights. I really believe that my students enjoyed the Wii FIT balance board activity. Kids today are so technologically advanced, so being able to bring a type of technology into my classroom where students are familiar with is perfect. Several of the students seemed to be interested in how the Wii balance board related to lifting weights. After students participated in a few of the games/activities on the balance board the students gained a better understanding of how balance plays a role in lifting weights (squat, power/hang clean, etc.) and sports. Great activity and easy for students to comprehend!
NSF GK-12 Convention in Washington, D.C.
We traveled to Washington D.C for the GK-12 Convention in March. These are assorted photographs from that trip, including one shot in the Library of Congress main gallery. It is a photograph of an inscription that reads: "The foundation of every state is the education of its youth." That sums up INSIGHT!
Wii Remote 'Egg Drop'
Students were challenged to use various types of packing material (bubble wrap, styrofoam eggs, shredded paper, balloons), and devise a way to protect their wii remote inside a shoe box. The shoe boxes were then dropped from desk height and the deceleration which the wii remote experienced was measured and compared to other designs to determine which design performed the best.
